The Function of EMP Bags
Transient electromagnetic disturbance is more popularly known as EMP or Electro Magnetic Pulse. This is more of a short burst of electromagnetic energy which should not be taken lightly. The pulse may have been originated from natural occurrence or it can be manmade as well and might occur as electric, radiated, conducted electric current or magnetic field depending on the source.
The interference caused by EMP is usually disruptive or damaging to electronic devices and equipment. And given with higher energy level, a strongly powerful EMP such as lightning strike is capable of destroying objects including aircraft structures, buildings and so on. One of the significant branches of EMC or Electromagnetic compatibility engineering is the management of its effect. The truth is, EMPs today are weaponized in order to deliver the damaging effect it has to enemies.
This is the time when Faraday cage was invented. In reality, this is named after Michael Faraday and it is a form of device that is designed to protect electronic devices from any type of electromagnetic radiation. The cage works by layering non conductive and conductive layers, creating a shielding effect for items that are stored inside the cage and protecting it from radiation. Despite the fact that it seems complicated, anyone can basically build their own Faraday cage by simply using an aluminum foil.
If you wish to learn how this can be done, then make sure that you follow the steps that are listed below:
Step number 1. Wrap your electronic device in plastic layer – find a plastic wrap or a plastic bag and use it to wrap your device or as storage. What this will do is establish a barrier between conductive aluminum layer and the device. It can serve as waterproof layer as well to get that extra level of protection.
Step number 2. Cover every inch of your device with aluminum foil – the reason why this should be done is that, the aluminum foil act as a conducting layer. In order for this one to be effective, make sure that the aluminum foil you’re using has no gaps or tears. Preferably, make use of your hands in molding the foil around the device. This act as the first 3 layers of aluminum foil.
Step number 3. Alternate the aluminum foil and plastic – as much as possible, put three layers of aluminum foil. You can also maximize the protection by simply adding plastic layers in between every layer of the foil. As you do so, this will create alternating layer of conductive and non-conductive materials and protect the device from electromagnetic radiation.
